In a very plain and simple geographical language Oceania consists of numerous countries and territories which are mostly islands. These regions mostly include Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. It is called Oceania rather than any other name because unlike the other continents it is the ocean which links the nations together. It is a collective name for the 25,000 islands of the Pacific. It was traditionally divided into Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia. It mostly contains island nations where Australia and Papua New Guinea are the only continental countries with a land border. Some of the best parks and gardens can be found in Australia and its beaches are world famous. |
