Airports have known for a long time that birds can pose problems to airplane engines, and have come up with different ways of combating the issue. Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, for example, has a robotic hawk to scare birds away. But if you’d like to get a job keeping the birds at bay, inquire at Zürich Airport, which employs three hunters to shoot the potentially damaging creatures.

Today is July 1. In just six weeks, my kids go back to school. Thats left me juggling the calendar to figure out how to fit in everything we want to do before leaving the freedom of summer behind us.  Heres whats on our list:

  1. Holiday World & Splashin Safari Its an annual tradition. Two days are a must. One for the amusement park, one for the water park.
  2. Fort Wayne Tin Caps Game Yes, we have minor league baseball in Indianapolis, but Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne is worth the drive. Ive been there once, in the rain. It was enough to entice me to come back on a nice day.
  3. Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden A trip to Evansville, my husbands hometown, is always on the agenda.

Bruno Melling-Firth, Conrad Quashie and Max Boomgaarden-Cook were on a coach bound for the northern town of Chiang Mai, when it collided with another bus in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Another two Britons on board survived the accident, the Foreign Office said, and one was being treated for his injuries in hospital in Bangkok.

The accident happened in Khlong Khlung, in the Kamphaeng Phet Province, and reports suggested that the three men had been killed instantly.

The friends had flown out to Thailand last Thursday for their nine-week “trip of a lifetime” before going to university in September, the father of 19-year-old Mr Boomgaarden-Cook said.

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Bishop Museum has named Dr. Patrick Vinton Kirch, UC Berkeley professor of Anthropology and Integrative Biology, as the recipient of its prestigious Herbert E.
