Today I’d go … to China

Every week I get tons of emails asking me to visit hotels, resorts, cities and other destinations. I look at them all, longingly. But sometimes one catches my eye, especially a good deal. My sister leaves for China tomorrow on business. I seriously debated going with her, perhaps that’s why this deal seemed especially appealing.
China Spree Travel has an amazing winter special. The 8-day Timeless Beijing package costs only $799 per person (from San Francisco, so it would cost several hundred more for travel from St. Louis) for two November departures and all January and February departures.
This price – which is less than a normal air ticket – includes round-trip non-stop flights on Air China, airport transfers, six nights of 4-star accommodations, three days of guided private tours and entrance fees, six American buffet breakfasts and three lunches.
From the email:
The official 4-star hotel is the modern 464-room Huabin International (or similar), which is conveniently located within walking distance of Tiananmen Square and close to parks, fine restaurants, tourist sites and shopping malls. All rooms have TVs with satellite channels, broadband Internet access, central air conditioning, mini-bar, telephone, hair dryer, coffee maker and in-room safe-all the comforts of home and then some.
One day of sightseeing includes Tiananmen Square; the almost-600-year-old Forbidden City (the world’s largest palace complex); a rickshaw ride through the maze of alleys and courtyard houses of Old Beijing; and-something really special-lunch in a local family home. Another day covers the Sacred Way of Ming Tombs and the legendary Great Wall of China, again with lunch. And the third day includes visits to the Temple of Heaven, the “Bird Nest” Olympic stadium and the idyllic Summer Palace, with still another lunch. The other two-and-a-half days are free to do as you like, though an orientation list of other sightseeing attractions is available, the tour guides are “on standby,” and transportation for the whole group can be arranged for a reasonable price.
